Viewing patient medications from the medical summary

In a patient’s medical summary, you can view at-a-glance what medications a patient is currently taking, and what medications a patient has taken in the past. You can also start a prescription, or record that a patient is currently taking or has previously taken a medication.

Steps

1. Open the patient’s medical summary (see Opening the medical summary).
2. Perform one of the following actions:

To view a patient’s current medications, leave the Current Hx tab open. The Current Medications area lists the patient’s current medications.

To view a patient’s previous medications, click the Previous Hx tab. The Previous Medications area lists the patient’s previous (inactive) medications.

3. To view more detailed information about a particular medication, in the Current Medications area or the Previous Medications area, double-click the medication. The EMR opens the Medications and Allergies window. See Viewing patient medications (new prescriber).
4. From the Medications and Allergies window, you can also:

Create prescriptions (see Creating prescriptions (new prescriber))

Discontinue prescriptions (see Discontinuing medications (new prescriber))
