Configuring SMART printing

If you use computer terminals with SMART card readers, you can configure each terminal to have a different default printer (see Setting default printers for terminals with SMART card readers). This way, if you print a document from a room, and that room has it’s own printer, the document is printed from that room’s printer whenever you choose Quick Print . This is also called “follow me” printing.

Once you have configured a terminal for SMART printing, you can verify that you have configured SMART printing properly. See Testing that SMART printing is properly configured.

Troubleshooting SMART Printing issues

Issue 1: SMART printing was working on a terminal, and now it doesn’t. Why did it stop working?

Scenario 1: A user inserted their SMART card into the terminal and then pulled it out immediately or multiple times.

Scenario 2: A user removed their SMART card before their Remote Desktop session finished loading.

Scenario 3: A user configured more than one printer to be the terminal’s default printer.

Scenario 4: The terminal was moved (for example, to another room), and SMART printing was not reconfigured from the new location.

When any of the above scenarios occur, SMART printing can be “broken” for a user or terminal

Issue 2: I opened a document on a terminal and then moved to another terminal to print it, but the document printed on the previous terminal’s default printer. Why did this happen?

This occurs when you open a document, SMART form, prescription, etc. in one terminal, and then move to another terminal without closing the document or window first. When you print the document from the second terminal, the document retains the print settings from the first terminal.
