Testing that SMART printing is properly configured
You can confirm that SMART printing is properly configured on a terminal by opening your Wolf EMR remote desktop (on the Data Centre), and then verifying that the default printer set in Microsoft Windows is correct. When you move from terminal-to-terminal, the default printer should change to the correct printer for each terminal.
Steps
1.
Insert your SMART card into the card reader of the terminal you want to test SMART printing for. |
2.
If prompted, enter your username and password. Your remote desktop opens. |
3.
On your remote desktop, click Start and then, in the Start menu, click Devices and Printers. Windows Explorer opens, with your clinic’s devices, printers and fax machines listed. Under Printers and Faxes, this terminal’s default printer displays with a white or green check mark. |
4.
Slide your card out of the card reader (without logging out of your session), and then slide your card into another terminal that uses a different default printer. On the new terminal, your session resumes where you finished off, with your clinic’s devices and printers displayed. |
5.
Wait about 20 seconds for the session to refresh. The green or white check mark should move to this terminal’s default printer. This confirms that SMART printing is working for this terminal. |
6.
If after 20 seconds the default printer does not change: |
a)
Log off of your remote desktop: On your remote desktop’s task bar, click Start , and then click Log off. |
Do not log off by clicking X at the top of the session window, or the session will not be ended.
b)
Remove your SMART card. |
c)
Wait one minute, and then log in again. |
d)
Open the Printers and Faxes area once more (see step 3). A green or white check mark should now display beside the correct default printer. This confirms that SMART printing is working for this terminal. |
7.
If the default printer still does not change to the correct printer, log off of your remote desktop, and then reconfigure SMART printing for the terminal. See Configuring SMART printing. |
