Merging lab codes

When different sending facilities have different lab codes for the same test, the codes are merged so that lab values display properly in graphs, flowsheets, reports, letters, and exams. Merge codes ensure that the lab investigations from different facilities are treated as the same type of investigation.

If a sending facility changes a lab code, Wolf EMR can no longer identify which test the lab value represents. When this happens, the lab result does not display properly. For example, if the facility changes its lab code to identify Total Cholesterol, when you double-click a recent Total Cholesterol lab, older values no longer display on the graph. Also, because Wolf EMR does not recognize values with the new lab code as Total Cholesterol, these lab values do not display in flowsheets, where Total Cholesterol is programmed to be pulled.

If this happens, assign the appropriate merge code to the unidentified lab code. See below for a full list of merge codes. For information about how to enter merge codes, see Managing lab codes.
