Claiming walk-in patients (providers)

When patients arrive for a walk-in clinic, front-end staff book each patient for a walk-in appointment (see Booking walk-in appointments). If front-end staff do not manually move walk-in patients to a provider’s schedule, providers can view and claim patients from the walk-in list.

Once claimed, a patient is moved to the provider’s schedule and this lets the billing program know to create a bill for the encounter for this provider.

Before you can claim walk-in patients, a provider and your scheduler must be set up for walk-ins (see Setting up your scheduler for walk-in patients).

Steps

1. From the provider WorkDesk > Appointments tab, select the Walk-in check box.

A list of patients booked in the walk-in schedule appear.

W in the left column indicates that they are walk-in patients.

T indicates that the patient is taken by a provider

2. To claim a patient, click the patient. When prompted to claim the appointment, click Yes.
3. To un-claim a patient and move them back to the list for another provider to claim from the WorkDesk Patients menu, click Un-claim Walk-in Appt .

Note: You cannot un-claim a patient if you have already entered a SOAP note and locked the record or if a bill was created for the visit.
